Jiangnan University Garners Another Gold Prize at the 2023 China International College Students Innovation Competition

From December 3rd to 6th, the National Finals of the 2023 China International College Students Innovation Competition took place at Tianjin University. After intense competition, Jiangnan University achieved remarkable success, securing one gold medal, two silver medals, and two bronze medals. This marks our university’s continued success in clinching the gold prize at the national level. Among the winning projects, the School of Food Science and Technology’s initiative, “Anhe Sheng - Pioneering Global 3D Enzyme-Embedded Botanical Antibacterial Insecticides”, received the gold accolade in the Higher Education Track. In the Industry Track, “Yijun Tuqi - Forerunner in the Discovery and Industrialization of Functional Strains Restheces” was honored with a silver medal. Additionally, the project “Li Yin - Commercial Music Solutions Based on Artificial Intelligence Engine” from the School of Environment & Ecology secured a silver trophy in the Higher Education Track.

Since its initiation in December 2022, the competition has progressed through university-level selections, provincial-level evaluations, and national-level contests. The university has offered comprehensive support and guidance to all project teams. The university leadership has shown a high level of commitment to the organization and preparation of the competition, stressing its significant importance on numerous occasions. They have attended project training sessions, warmly greeted participating teachers and students, and provided encouragement. The Student Affairs Department, in collaboration with relevant functional departments and schools, has worked together in a coordinated effort, conducting project cultivation and selections in stages and categories.

Since this year, over 570 projects from various schools have actively registered for the competition, involving more than 2,000 students. Following intensive training in internal camps, 24 outstanding projects emerged to compete at the provincial level, with five projects ultimately winning first prizes. The university was also honored with the Provincial Higher Education Track Excellent Organization Award. Over the course of nearly a year of preparation, the university invited more than 50 experts and alumni for over 60 online and offline training sessions and special camps. The focus was on ensuring robust project guidance and effective process management, providing comprehensive support to participating teams, and fostering a positive competitive atmosphere.

In recent years, the university has remained committed to talent development by aligning with national strategies and addressing the needs of regional economic and social development. Prioritizing the cultivation of students’ innovative abilities, the university has actively explored a working model that integrates innovation with thinking, specialty, science, and industry, using competitions as a platform. It has identified and consolidated high-quality resources both within and outside the university, harnessing the collaborative power of innovation and entrepreneurship. This ongoing effort aims to advance the university’s high-level initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurship and ensure the high-quality development of student capabilities. Through these endeavors, Jiangnan University aspires to contribute significantly to the nation’s goal of becoming an education powerhouse in this era.

It has been reported that the China International College Students Innovation Competition, jointly launched by 12 departments, including the Ministry of Education, and the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, is hosted by Tianjin University. The competition serves as a platform for young university students to hone and showcase their abilities, fostering goal-oriented and problem-driven scientific research development. Additionally, it expedites the fusion of scientific discovery and technological innovation, inspiring the innovative spirit and creativity of young people in the new era. This year, the competition attracted the participation of 17.09 million students with 4.21 million projects from 5,296 schools in 151 countries and regions worldwide. This event has earned the reputation of being a grand gathering for innovation and entrepreneurship, involving participants from hundreds of countries and thousands of schools.
