“Good morning, everyone! Welcome to this module and we will discuss management.” At 8 a.m. of September 14, Ms. Xu Junqian from School of Business began the first English lecture for the course: Principles of Management. About 20 students from Thailand, Iran, Kazakhstan, Burundi, Tanzania, etc. attended this lecture.
Principles of Management is an important one in the discipline platform courses of the English bachelor program of Business Administration. School of Business of Jiangnan University specially developed the 4-year bachelor program for the overseas students studying in the University, including the general education courses, the discipline platform courses, the professional core courses, the concentration practice and the innovation practice. For the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year, the general education courses and the discipline platform courses will be offered. Among the courses, Higher Mathematics，Principles of Management，Introduction to China，and Chinese Language have begun the first lecture in the first teaching week, while Freshman Seminar and Introduction of Computer Technology will also get started soon. School of Business, School of Science, School of Digital Media and School of International Education provide teaching support to the successful execution of the English bachelor Program for Business Administration.
Internationalization of higher education is the trend of world universities in the 21st century. On November 5, 2015, the State Council of China issued the "Overall Plan to Promote the World First-class University and First-class Discipline Construction" which put promoting international exchanges and cooperation, especially substantive cooperation with the world first-class universities and academic institutions, strengthening international collaborative innovation, and improving the international competitiveness and the right to speak of China's higher education" as one of the five reform tasks.
On December 9, 2015, the Nineteenth Meeting of the Leading Group for Further Reform of the CPC Central Committee also reviewed and adopted the Opinions on Doing a Good Job in the Educational Opening to the Outside World in the New Era, pointing out that it is necessary to persist in expanding opening up, strengthening China's education, promoting cultural and educational exchanges and raising the quality and level of opening to the outside world.
On September 1 this year, Jiangnan University began to implement the Action Plan for Enlarging Educational Opening to the Outside World, and promote different levels of international cooperation and exchanges in a wide range of fields, accelerating the construction of a research-oriented university with distinctive characteristics.
According to the "Detailed Rules for Promoting the Implementation of Foreign Students Education at Jiangnan University" in the "Action Plan", construction of such English-taught programs as Industrial Design, Food Science and Engineering, Biological Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Textile Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Nursing, etc. are also in the process.
