On the evening of March 18th, 2017, supported by the “Program of Elegant Arts into Campus”, a fabulous Bollywood dance delegation from India staged a fabulous dance show in the Wenhao Theatre of Jiangnan University. This performance was jointly sponsored by Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Wuxi Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Jiangnan University and the Consulate General of India in Shanghai. Consulate General, Mr. Prakash Gupta, Former Vice- President Wang Wu, Director Chen Minghui and Chairman Xu Huijuan were invited to attend at the show.
After the opening speeches of distinguished guests, the show started with the traditional Indian dance of Ganesh Vandana, which was rooted in the divine prayers in temples. The divine and mysterious atmosphere, absorbed facial expressions, and rich body movements of dancers immediately caught the audience’s attention to the stage. Then a famous Indian song Yaahoo composed by Shammi Kapoor, one of the most popular Indian film star in 70s and 80s, was sung, which aroused the audience’s passions to cheer with the singer and dancers. The subsequent performance of Fusion Dance was unique with its delightful melody, nifty dance and vigorous dancers, which really entertained the audience to their hearts’ content. Finally, the show was ended with the theme songJai Hoof the Oscar-winning film—Slumdog Millionaire, pushing the whole show to the climax with bursts of applauses and cheers.
This gorgeous dance show not only feasted the eyes and ears of our faculty and students but also enhanced the friendship and cultural exchanges between China and India, just as a student said, “It is a sheer enjoyment, and a chance to learn and experience the charm of exotic culture.”
