On March, 22, an award ceremony entitled “A Gratitude from Wuxi People and a Foundation for Wuxi Future’, was held to praise some people who had made outstanding contributions to Wuxi education and therefore were honored with“2014 Persons of Wuxi Education”. President Chen Jian from Jiangnan University (JU) also attended the gathering as a prize-presenter.

Among the winners, Professor Chen Yongquan from JU’s School of Food Science and Technology, was awarded with citaton like this,“With patriotism, he had studied overseas for 30 years; with knowledge, he made innovations in scientific research; with variety, he broaden students’ vision. All in all, he is dedicated to put all his learning in use for the motherland.”

After graduating from the Department of Biotechnology, Fudan University, he furthered his study in Belgium and therefore started his 30-year-long abroad experience. With the doctoral degree of Virus and Molecular Biology in Free University of Brussels, he continued to pursue his research in America. With commitment and industriousness, he has made fruitful achievements in lipometabolism and human health and disease prevention, ascending as a famous scholar in this field. In 2012, in spite of a well-equipped living and researching environment, he, responding to motherland’s call, came back to China and since then has been making great contributions to the educational undertaking of Wuxi city and even China.

According to the sponsor of the event, Wuxi Education Channel, since the start, it has attracted great concerns and heated participation from all circles of society. With 80 persons turned out in 8 years, it has gradually become an influential-branded public activity in Wuxi City.
