UCD Provost Ralph Jay Hexter visits JU

From June 30 to July 3, a UC Davis (JU’s American partner university) delegation, including Provost Prof. Ralph Jay Hexter, Vice Provost Prof. Bill Lacy and Director Prof. Michelle Yeh from Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, visited JU, aiming at expanding cooperative fields and discussing the future development of the Confucius Institute Between UC Davis and Jiangnan University based on the past work done.

At a meeting presided over by Vice President Xu Yan, JU President Chen Jian welcomed the delegation, with the attending of some JU administrators including Director Zhong Fang from the International Office and Dean Chen Wei and Deputy Dean Zhou Peng from the School of Food Science.

The two sides both reviewed and treasured the 30-plus-year cooperative relationship between the two Universities and highlighted the jointly constructed Confucius Institute. With the joint efforts, the Confucius Institute has been holding a series of activities focusing on the spread of Chinese Culture, attaining fruitful outcome. To better display the distinctive features of Chinese Food Culture designed, JU will send teachers specializing in Food Science, Chinese Food Culture, Chinese Traditional Culture and Arts for its teaching with the joint support from Hanban and JU, which had the endorsement of Provost Hexter. In addition, they exchanged views on other issues of the Confucius Institute such as reinforcing the Board and tuning the organizational structure, and discussed in a wide range on jointly applying for an international joint laboratory program of China’s Ministry of Education.

During the visit, the delegation visited State Key Lab of Food Science and Technology, National Engineering Laboratory for Cereal Fermentation Technology, laboratories of the School of Food Science, and a couple galleries for Chinese Food Culture and Chinese Traditional Culture at JU. Also, they had a extensive contact with JU faculty members and students.
