Leading a Jiangnan University(JU) delegation including some leaders from Department of Educational Affairs, the School of IOT and the School of Design, Vice Chancellor Zhou Xiaopu visited some European partner universities recently.

In Technical University of Denmark (DTU), JU delegation was warmly welcome by Prof. Hans Schjær-Jacobsen, President of DTU, Diplom, and Prof. Birgitte Frandsen Langkilde, Administrative Director. After a retrospect of the ongoing cooperation in student and faculty exchanges since 2007, the two sides explored the prospective cooperative fields in joint postgraduate cultivation, undergraduate exchanges and exchanges for faculty members from Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. On the basis of supports from the cities where JU and DTU are located, they also negotiated about jointly applying for an Overseas Confucius Institute with a theme ofEducation and Regional Sustainable development and Innovation, tentatively figuring out its cultural theme and the details of the application.

In Saxion University of Applied Sciences,Netherlands, the delegation met with Prof. G.J. Brinks from Design and Technology Center, Prof. J.A. Wolters, Chair of the Department of Electronics Engineering and Prof.Taco Van Loon from the Game designing Department, with the discussion focusing on the taught-in-English student exchange program and the 3+1 dual-degree program. As a fruitful result, the two universities signed a memo for further cooperation. In Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Finland, President Outi Kallioinen met with the delegation and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral academic relationships especially in the fields of Design, Environmental Protection and Nursing so as to co-cultivate talents with international horizon.

In Switzerland, the delegation received a warm welcome in a meeting held by Anne-Catherine Lyon, Director of Education Department of Higher Education Bureau, Vidy. She gave a brief introduction of Switzerland’s higher education system and the international programs of Vidy. Seeing that none of the Vidy’s institutions of higher learning had yet established a long-term relationship with the Chinese counterparts, she sincerely hoped that JU would take the lead. Also at the meeting, administrators from some Vidy-based colleges respectively briefed the delegation about these institutions and were willing to cooperated with JU’s Medical School and the School of Business by initiating student exchange programs which may include specialized- course-study and internships for both Chinese and Swiss students. After the meeting, JU delegation visited the Clinical Simulation Lab in Source Medical College, and Sewage Treatment Lab and Robot Lab in Vidy Engineering Management College.

The visit, with fruitful results, showcased JU’s internationalization strategy that JU would expand international cooperation in an all-around manner to enhance its disciplinary construction, talent cultivation and international standing.
