A good news -- Jiangnan University(JU) baseball team won the Championship of 2013 The 9th National University Baseball/Softball Tournament Finals (High-level Group) held from July 22 to 27, which saw in total 560 athletes of 23 baseball teams and 14 softball teams qualified from 29 universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Jiangsu Province, Guangdong Province, Xinjiang Province and Qinghai Province.

JU baseball team, consisting of members including Team Leader Zhu Xinwei, Director of the Sports Department, Team Coach Zhou Wanbi, Jiangsu Baseball Team Head Coach, and 16 JU student athletes, had a fierce competition with teams from East China University of Political Science and Law, North China University of Technology, Shanghai International Studies University and Nanjing University of Technology. With ambitions, teamwork and dare spirit, it has conquered various kinds of difficulties and defeated all other teams, achieving the trough cup in the end, the first one of its kind in JU history. Team Coach Zhou Wanbi was awarded “The Best Coach” and Sun Meng from JU was recognized “The Best Pitcher” in the Tournament. The Championship indicates that the hard work of the JU athletes is worthwhile, and it is a decent reward for the great efforts of JU to pursue university sportsmanship.

Initiated in 2004, National University Baseball/Softball Tournament Finals is an annual highest-level university baseball/softball competition in China in order to enhance the development of sports, especially the baseball and softball in China’s institutions of higher learning. The competition was directed by Baseball and Softball Branch of China University Student Sports Association, China Baseball Association and China Softball Association, and supported by Tianjin Institute of Physical Education.
