On Sept.25, 2013 in Nan Jing, there held the 2013 Jiangsu Friendship Award ceremony, on which Mao Weiming, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province made a speech and awarded the prizes to 16 foreign experts from educational institutes and other enterprises in Jiangsu.

Thanks to the distinctive contribution and remarkable achievements, one of the honor went to a visiting professor at the School of Design in JU — Ezio Manzini, a professor from Politecnico De Milano, Italy, and Chairman of International Sustainable Design and Innovation League.

For over 40 years, Prof. Ezio Manzini has been engaged in teaching and research of sustainable design where he was titled as an authority, a leader and a thinker， for his pioneering idea ushered in a trend of thoughts in sustainable design. Since 2001 when Prof. Manzini was invited to visit and work at JU, he has pushed the joint work between Politecnico De Milano and Jiangnan University more frequently. Up to 50 faculties exchanged and visited each other annually. Owing to his assist, JU was accepted as a core member in the DESIS and co-founded DESIS-China with the other five renowned Schools of Design (which are in Tsinghua University, Huanan University, Tongji University, Guangzhou Academy of Arts and Hongkong Polytechnic University). DESIS-China has become a dynamic academic society attributed to the predominance and resources contributed by its members. In 2010 when the Intl’ EXPO was held in China, DESIS hosted in the UN Pavilion a forum attended by 200 representatives all over the world, which enhanced the influence and academic position of JU, boosted the development of design subject and sustainable research in China and paved a good way for promotion of friendship between China and Italy.

Jiangsu Friendship Award, as the top prize for foreign experts by Jiangsu provincial government, has been given to those who performed prominent deeds in Jiangsu economic and social development since 1997. Till now 203 foreigners totally were showered the honor.
