According toMinistry of Education’s Announcement to Approve the 3rd Batch of Programs for Outstanding Engineers Cultivation Plan (JGTH NO. 38, 2013), three Programs of Jiangnan University(JU)--Automation, Chemical Engineering and Technology and Packaging Engineering—were given the permission to carry out this national educational reform plan.

The Outstanding Engineers Cultivation Plan (OECP), a significant reform measure to accelerate the innovative talents cultivation in the spirit ofNational Outline of Medium- and long-term Educational Reform, is aiming to bring up various high-level engineers with innovation capacity, which are oriented to the industry, the world and the future for meeting the need of social development.

As one of the first institutions of higher learning implementing the plan, JU has six OECP programs in total including 4 previously approved programs, namely, Food Science and Technology, Bioengineering, Textile Engineering and IOT Engineering.

Taking carrying out the OECP as a great opportunity, JU has been integrating its educational and scientific resources and borrowing the experience of overseas institutions to explore a new talent-cultivation mode featuring the development of students’ academic basis as well as practical and innovative capacity with the joint efforts of JU and many enterprises. So far, a group of teaching field bases, including six ones at national level such as Bright Dairy Co,Ltd. Base, Qingdao Beer Co, Ltd. Base, etc., have been established to meet the demand of integrating professional qualification and academic requirements. In May this year, JU signed the first overseas base with Sealed Air Co, Ltd., which symbolizes an approach for bringing up talents with international horizon.
