Recently,China Food Safety Development Report, finished by a research team which was led by Professor Wu Linhai from Jiangnan University (JU) and includes twenty-plus professors and scholars with multi-discipline academic background from Jiannan University, Renmin University of China and Nanjing Agricultural University, came out as one of the twenty five national series reports on social development, supported by China’s Ministry of Education, giving rise to an extensive news coverage and favorable reviews in China.

In recent years, a rash of food safety scandals, such as “Tainted Pork”, “Dyed Steamed Bun”, “Recycled Cooking Oil”, “Fake Beef” and “Poisonous Bean Sprout”, struck all over China, arousing considerable concern on food safety nationally. The report has been accorded generous applause for its comprehensive, systematic and profound analysis on the problem with far-ranging on-spot investigation, and JU professor Wu Linhai takes the credit naturally. With the research direction based on social science including management and economics, this report, furthermore, marks a substantial step on disciplinary integration of JU, and is of much significance in supporting the disciplinary advantage of Food Science and prospering the disciplines of social science at JU.
