On Novermber 30th, 2012, the Awarding Ceremony of Outstanding Chinese Industrial Design Gold Award, the first national award in industrial design, was held in Xiamen International Conference Center. Ten design works went through first and final round of evaluation panels and were recognized with gold award. Among the ten works, nine are product design works and one is conceptual design work. The ten works stood out from 1451 works collected nationwide and can well represent the top design level in the field of industrial design.

Mr. Cao Ming from School of Design, Jiangnan University (JU) is of the awardees. His work, scud magnetic motor bike, has been honored with awards two times as it already won "Red Dot" award in 2012. Moreover, his work is the only one from institutions of higher learning. Another work from JU, multifunction robot vacuum cleaner designed by Mr. Deng Rong, was also honored with award for nomination.

Apart from its prominent status in the Industry Design field, the award is one of the few official government awards authorized by Chinese Central Government. The ten works are all of significance to national economy and people's livelihood. Therefore, this national award drew concern and got attention from related government offices and enterprises.

The significance attached to this award can also be proved by the attendance of officials and leaders including Minister Miao of Ministry of Industry and Information Industry, Party Secretary Yu Weiguo of Xiamen, Vice Governor Zhang Zhinan of Fujian Province as well as Dr. Pan Yunhe, Executive Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
