JU Professor Participating in Grand Design Works

Recently,Chinese Design Complete-20 volumes(CDC),joint-published by Commercial Press and Haitian Press, was first issued in Beijing. It has been accomplished by hundreds of Chinese famous researchers on design after 8 years of hard work, financed by national publishing funding project, twelve-fifth National Key Publishing Plan Books Project and twelve-fifth Key Books Project of China Publishing Group Corporation.

Prof. Guo Weimin from the School of Design held the post of editorial fellow of CDC and also acted as the chief editor ofThe First Volume, Architecture-Living. His research team on Architecture Heritage Conservation and Regeneration, through field research and referring to related literatures of domestic libraries and archives, based on amount of first-hand information and pictures, spent nearly 3 years completing this work.

The first volume analyzed 150 designing cases of Chinese traditional exsiting architecture design paradigm and models, involving four parts—palace, official mansions, dwellings, garden and courtyard in ancient and modern China. These cases scattered in 18 provinces or autonomous regions - Beijing, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning Province, Tibet, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Shanxi, Anhui, Sichuan, Fujian, Yunnan, Jilin, Jiangxi, Xinjiang and Taiwan.

As the first book to completely reflect Han nation’s traditional thoughts on design culture from ancient to modern times, CDC filled up the academic blank in analyzing and displaying methods of Chinese design history research outcomes. The content is categorized into 6 parts, architecture, costume, catering, tool, appliance and writing materials, embracing 3000 classical design cases in China history and 18000 images, a total of more than 5 million words. It is considered as the first system-completed, content-rich and academy-powerful work of Chinese design history.

The publication of CDC attracted extensive attentions from academic community and news media such as CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, Peoples Network, Guangming Daily, China Youth News.
