Assistant Professor and DirectorTingrui Pan from theMicro-Nano Innovations (MiNI) Laboratory,Department of Biomedical Engineering,University of California Davis (UC Davis), lectured on Apr 6, 2012, on the topic “From Digital Microfluidics to Telemedicine: The Road Towards Future Healthcare” to the over 200 M.S. candidates and teachers of the School of IoT Engineering, Jiangnan University (JU). Prof. Pan currently serves on the editor board ofAnnals of Biomedical Engineering,a flagship journal of the biomedical engineering society and co-chairs theUS Contest of Applications in Nano/Micro Technologies(uCAN)

Starting from the long-standing relationship between UC Davis and JU, Prof. Pan expounded UC Davis and its city, the branches of the discipline of biology, systems biology and synthetic biology. Subsequently, by making an analogy of analog network and lotus effect, the promising prospect of fluid and molecular biology, as well as the ease that will be brought to life, were presented in detail in the lecture.

In the discussion afterwards, Prof. Pan encouraged the students to devote more to research for better service for the society and welcomed students of JU to pursue continuing study in UC Davis.

In the academic communication with research teams of the School of IoT Engineering, Prof. Pan gave an introduction to the application of nano-sensor technology, and proposed collaboration, in terms of joint laboratory and joint graduate cultivation, to cooperatively further the research and innovation of nano-sensor technology, and its application in all fields.

During the visit, Prof. Tingrui Pan also held academic exchanges with professors from the National Engineering Laboratory for Cereal Fermentation Technology, the School of Biotechnology and the School of Mechanical Engineering. (Han)
