Superb Show by Culture Envoys of UVU

I’m Alive, Fancy, Jingle/Grass, Tap Dance, Chacha, Waltz, Hip-Hop, Latino-Disco Melody, Slap Mosquito Dance,indigenous to the American continent, were put onto the stage of Jiangnan University on the evening of 4thMay. Dances of eight different types, including Native American, Latino, Bollywood, Polynesian & New Zeanland, Hawaii, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, enthralled all the spectators present at the event.

The show, entitled asMagic and Melody of World Dancing, was from Multicultural Performing Arts Group of Utah Valley University (UVU). That was UVU’s first arts show in China and the first foreign arts group visiting JU. Before the show, Vice President Fu Huiming of JU and Vice President Michelle Olsen Taylor of UVU exchanged souvenirs on behalf of each side. Other leaders at the reception were Vice President Xu Yan of JU and Mr. Fu Jusheng, Deputy Director of Department of Education of Wuxi.

During the show, students from Department of Dance of JU also delivered a group dance reflecting the appeals and aesthetics of Chinese culture, which drew applause from the audience and high praise among UVU teachers and students.

This amazing show was graced with the group finale, a sign language dance,Child of Light, demonstrating UVU arts group’s longing for a wonderful life. At the end of the performance, the troupe members came down from the stage to interact and communicate with JU’s teachers and students, an opportunity for cultural exchange among young people between China and U.S.

This superb show closed in a festive atmosphere and was well received and recognized by JU’s students and staff. As well, this show is a testimony of JU’s endeavor and efforts to promote its international strategy. (Patrick)
