Recently, the results of the 2025 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) were announced. Teams from Jiangnan University once again achieved remarkable success, securing a total of 49 awards. Among them, four teams were awarded the Finalist (F Award), six teams received the Meritorious Winner (M Award), and 39 teams earned the Honorable Mention (H Award). Both the scale of participation and the number of awards reached a record high.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM), organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP), is an international mathematical modeling competition and one of the most influential contests of its kind worldwide. The competition covers a wide range of fields, including economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, security, and future technology. The awards include Outstanding Winner (O Award), Finalist (F Award), Meritorious Winner (M Award), and Honorable Mention (H Award). The competition is divided into MCM and ICM. In 2025, a total of 21,092 teams participated in MCM, while 6,364 teams took part in ICM. The Outstanding Winner and Finalist awards were granted to only about 0.12% and 2.60% of participants, respectively.

With strong support from the university’s relevant departments and sister schools, the School of Science placed great emphasis on the competition and strengthened its organization. The mathematical modeling coaching team developed a scientific training system based on "solidifying foundations+categorized training+simulated practice." During the winter vacation, the team conducted intensive training and guidance to enhance students’ abilities in modeling, programming, and teamwork.

The School of Science has consistently focused on advancing the reform of fundamental mathematics and science education. It has established a grassroots teaching organization and formed teaching teams dedicated to course instruction and academic competitions. The school was also recognized as one of the first "Mathematical Modeling Teacher Education Studios," laying a solid foundation for cultivating students’ mathematical thinking, computational skills, and overall mathematical literacy. In the 2024 National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, Jiangnan University also achieved outstanding results, winning three National First Prizes and four National Second Prizes, placing its award rate and level in the top tier nationwide.

The outstanding achievements of Jiangnan students in mathematical modeling competitions fully reflect the university’s educational philosophy of "promoting teaching and learning through competitions, integrating competitions with education." These successes have greatly boosted students’ confidence in participating in future mathematical modeling contests. Moving forward, the School of Science will further strengthen guidance and strategic planning, while the mathematical modeling coaching team remains committed to pursuing excellence and striving for the highest honors, contributing to the university’s "Double First-Class" initiative.
